7 Suicides in the Bible

Sunday, April 12, 2009

The Bible does not encourage anyone to commit suicide. Instead, the Bible encourages us to trust God in every situation.

The word suicide is not found in the Bible. Our English word suicide is from two Latin words, sui (meaning 'of oneself') and cida (meaning 'to kill').

Sampson committed suicide by pushing down the supporting pillars of the temple of Dagon, killing many of his Philistine enemies in the process.

There are seven suicides in the Bible.

1. Abimelech - Judges 9:52-54

2. Samson - Judges 16:25-30

3. Saul - 1 Samuel 31:4, 1 Chronicles 10:4

4. Saul's armour-bearer - 1 Samuel 31:4

5. Ahithophel - 2 Samuel 17:23

6. Zimri - 1 Kings 16:15-20

7. Judas - Matthew 27:3-5, Acts 1:18

If you are thinking about committing suicide, DON'T.

God has something better for you than suicide. Seek help, keep trusting God and He will make a way for you.

Suicide is always an unwise and permanent solution for a temporary problem. Don't do it.

"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:19
